Will insurance cover my treatment/acupuncture costs?*

As organisations such as an Americal Medical Association are starting to recommend acupuncture as frontline treatment, insurance companies are increasingly covering acupuncture costs.

If your insurance is not listed here, it doesn’t mean they will not pay for your treatment.  Come in, get a treatment plan from us and then get in touch with them.

If you’re interested in acupuncture treatment but concerned about the cost, there may be options to help cover the expense. Here are some potential options to explore.

Southern cross insurance may cover some costs

If you have the “Well Being Two” policy with the Body Care Module, you may be eligible for coverage of up to $400 per year for acupuncture. To confirm your eligibility, contact Southern Cross call centre on 0800 800 181.

Note, that if you have this policy, you maybe able to obtain Body Care Module before commencing the treatment with us.

Employer Coverage

Some employers, such as NZ Police, NZ Post, Air New Zealand, Kiwi Rail, Veteran’s Affairs, and certain education unions, may provide coverage for acupuncture treatment for their employees. Check with your employer to see if this is an option for you.

Unimed

Unimed, one of the top four health insurers in New Zealand, offers coverage for acupuncture under their Hospital Select and Health Positive plans.

ACC

If your injury is registered with ACC, they may cover the cost of acupuncture treatment, although a co-payment applies. Be sure to provide your valid ACC claim number and/or ACC45 number prior to treatment.

If the injury is older than one year, additional paperwork is required prior to treatment.

Work and income NZ

Patients registered with Work and Income may be eligible for assistance. Please request for a referral from your GP and consult with WINZ before you make an appointment.

Partners life

If you are a holder of Partners Life insurance, you could potentially pre-approve and claim the cost of acupuncture by presenting a treatment plan and supporting evidence. To get started, schedule an appointment with us, and we will provide you with the necessary paperwork after the initial consultation.
